The DigiPoS Retail Core and Retail Core Extender system units are designed for low cost deployment across the retail estate. They deliver fully capable plug and play systems with optimum performance and low maintenance. Over years of research and development experience DigiPoS have recognised and met the varying needs of retailers. Whether from higher end systems such as the award-winning Retail Blade through to the new DigiPoS Retail Core and Extender – DigiPoS continues to innovate to bring value to retailers.
Packed with the functionality the Retail Core/Extender delivers performance when and where it is needed – and in a remarkably small space. Using Intel technology the low cost system/s also provide a mean time between failure average of some 11 years.
For many years retailers have faced limited choice in the EPoS arena – particularly at the entry level. DigiPoS retail specific design has brought together high performance, reliability and direct low entry cost in one flexible system.
For certain environments, the Retail Core alone will act as an ideal thin client system for a particular store or application. For different needs, or alternative stores across the estate – the plug and play Retail Core Extender can be installed adding significantly deeper functionality. This way technology is deployed only at the point of real need bringing the opportunity upgrade only as required deriving outstanding ROI.
The DigiPoS Retail Core measures just 240mm x 210mm x 75mm and runs without a fan - one of the rational areas of system weakness. The system is also a sealed unit - reducing issues such as dirt and dust which can have a negative effect on system components.
Small and reliable - Measuring just 240mm x 210mm x 75mm, additional design priority was given to the need to produce a compact modular system - optimising counter and surrounding space.
Low power consumption - The DigiPoS Retail Core consumes just 15 Watts of power - less than a standard light bulb. Figures show the Retail Core consumes up to 80% less power than a standard PC.
High performance at a low cost - The DigiPoS Retail Core provides high performance at a reasonable price, reducing IT purchasing and running costs.
The Retail Core solution addresses a new range of issues important to retailers by providing:
- > Small form factor. The individual unit measures 240mm x 210mm x 75mm.
- > Retail Core. Operation as a completely sealed unit with no moving parts.
- > Fanless. Allheat is exchanged through innovative external heat sync dispersal.
- > Locking I/O ports. For secure connectivity.
- > Low cost, modular PSU. For easy swop out as and when required.
- > Complete flexibility. Via the addition of retail specific features in the Retail Core Extender.
- > Only pulling 15 Watts of Power

DigiPoS is committed to creating greener, more energy efficient products.
From hundreds of conversations with leading retailers - it was clear that the Retail Core would need to address the historical issue of power consumption, from both the perspective of environmental responsibility and consideration of operating cost for the PoS system itself.
The cumulative operating cost of multiple PoS systems can be considerable when taking into account the number of potential units and their workload in a typical day, with the DigiPoS Carbon Down products, retailers have an opportunity to demonstrate the steps they are taking to reduce carbon footprint and overall use of energy.
The Retail Core consumes just 15 Watts of power - just 25% of the power used of a low wattage light bulb. This results in an EPoS system which consumes up to 80% less power than a standard PC - a compelling reason to go green! Over time, the DigiPoS Retail Core effectively pays for itself in cost savings.
DigiPoS customers are already seeing savings of thousands of pounds per year. Over time, the DigiPoS carbon down products effectively pay for themselves in cost savings.
This table compares the DigiPoS Retail Core (Intel® ULV Celeron M low power processor) with the Intel® Core 2 Duo or 478.
- > Intel® ULV Celeron M consumes 20 Watts full power, 1 Watt standby.
- > Intel® Core 2 Duo or 478 consumes 125 Watts full power, 50 Watts standby.
- > Energy cost calculated on a typical retail account of 12p/kWh.
- > CO2 figures used are benchmarked against the DEFRA document “Guidelines to DEFRA’s GHG conversion factors for company reporting”.
